Windermere Real Estate Southern California Establishes College of the Desert Scholarships

Thursday, May 9th, 2013
Windermere Southern California Bob Deville at COD

Dr. Joel Kinnamon, President of College of the Desert; John Jaramillo, Dean of the College of Applied Sciences and Business at COD, and Bob Deville, co-owner of Windermere Real Estate Southern California discuss the new 2013 Windermere Scholarships at the College of the Desert’s Foundation Office.

Windermere Real Estate Southern California is firmly positioned as the area leader in residential resale and luxury home sales. But equally as impressive is their philosophy on giving back to the communities in which they serve.

As established members of the community, Windermere Agents and Staff keep an eye on the issues and concerns that impact the local economy, not only in terms of property values, but the educational and vocational pathways that lead to the viability of home ownership for residents and visitors alike. Their knowledge in this area recently helped identify a need to support local students in higher education programs at the community college level.

And from this need, Windermere Real Estate Southern California created their College of the Desert Student Scholarship fund through their Windermere California Foundation. For the 2013-2014 school year, four qualifying students benefit from these scholarships in three categories: Business, Economics and Real Estate Development. These scholarships pay for a portion of the students’ tuition and expenses, and allow students to focus on what’s important – their education.

College of the Desert business school Palm DesertTwo scholarships in the amount of $2500 each will go to qualified students majoring in Business and Economics, and two $1000 scholarships will go to qualified students working toward a Real Estate Development certificate. These scholarships support full-time students taking 12 units or more with at least a 3.0 grade point average.

“Given the unprecedented state budget difficulties, now more than ever the contributions Windermere Real Estate Southern California has made are especially critical,” said Dr. Joel Kinnamon, superintendent and president of College of the Desert. “As much as we do for our students and community, we can do so much more with the financial help we receive from our COD Foundation through its dedicated supporters.”

College of the Desert Palm Desert CaliforniaBob Deville, co-owner of Windermere Real Estate Southern California, said, “Windermere Real Estate is proud to support these new opportunities for the students of the College of the Desert’s Business, Economics and Real Estate Development programs. As the economy continues to improve, we felt that it was important as one of the Coachella Valley’s industry leaders to show our support and bolster local higher education.”

Since opening their first Coachella Valley office in 2001, Windermere Real Estate Southern California has contributed tens of thousands of dollars to local charities through the Windermere Foundation. Windermere agents and its employees support dozens of charities that benefit the community as a whole, whether that is through childhood and educational development or economic and social supports. And they continue to make a great impact on our community.

Windermere’s Gina Garcia Recognized by La Mesa City Council

Tuesday, March 12th, 2013

When Windermere SoCal agent Gina Garcia heard that the City of La Mesa was planning to celebrate its Centennial, she knew her marketing expertise could be of great help. Gina walked across the street from Windermere’s La Mesa office and volunteered at City Hall. Soon she was a key member of the organization’s Marketing Committee and was doing business with a host of community leaders who were also contributing to the event’s planning.

La Mesa Centennial Trolley

Gina had one special idea. She asked a City Council member to approach the Metropolitan Transit System to donate a “trolley wrap” to mark the beginning of the Centennial year and soon one of the key kick-off events of the Centennial was born. On a sunny day in February 2012, many of the region’s leading citizens, including NBA Hall of Famer Bill Walton, rode into La Mesa on an Orange Line trolley wrapped with La Mesa’s historical scenes.

“For the entire year, daily, people throughout La Mesa and the entire San Diego community saw a rolling billboard celebrating ‘The Jewel of the Hills’,” Gina said. “It worked out great for the city and all its sponsors, including Windermere Real Estate.’’

La Mesa Centennial 2013 Opening Day

This February 2013, Garcia joined many of the corporate heads of La Mesa’s leading companies accepting a special medallion created to honor the Centennial volunteers.

“I see serving my real estate clients and my community as very similar jobs,’’ Gina said. “It is a lot easier to sell a home when the community in which it is located is a great one, like La Mesa.’’

Windermere Southern California Closes Out 2012 On Top

Saturday, December 29th, 2012

Windermere CV Jan thru Nov 2012

Windermere Real Estate Southern California is wrapping up the 2012 year with year-end sale projections that far exceed last year’s groundbreaking sales record.

“We continue to be extremely proud and thankful that our fantastic family of Windermere real estate professionals propels us to the top of the market,” said Bob Deville, co-owner of Windermere Real Estate Southern California. “At Windermere, we understand the cycles of the real estate market and plan accordingly. Throughout 2012, we continued to expand our offices, develop new tools and associate with the very best real estate agents in the desert.”

Windermere closed out its third quarter in 2012 again as the real estate market leader throughout the Coachella Valley for the 16th consecutive quarter. Currently with a year-to-date closed sales volume exceeding $1,345,111,452 in residential home resales according to Desert Area MLS data, Windermere continues to dominate both the residential resale and luxury home markets.

Annual luxury homes sales numbers through the end of November show Windermere Real Estate Southern California with a total sales volume of $297,469,000, more than twice the number of its nearest competitor. Windermere’s current cumulative total in luxury sales even exceeds their next four competitors’ totals combined, according to third party data.

“A combination of factors, including the decrease in distressed property sales, historically low mortgage rates and lower inventory, have helped boost sales prices and home values in all price points,” said Bob Deville. “The result of this equates to encouraging news for both buyers and sellers who are looking to garner the maximum value for their properties.”

According to Desert Area MLS data, Windermere Real Estate closed out the second quarter of 2012 with a sales volume of $841,916,728.

“We are extremely proud and thankful to our fantastic family of real estate agents and brokers that continue to keep us at the top of the market,” shares Bob Deville, Co-Owner of Windermere Real Estate Southern California. “Our agents are our pride and joy and the key to our success as a real estate brokerage. There is no mystery to that success. We give our agents the tools they need to succeed, support them in every way that we can, and get out of their way.”

Windermere is run on an agent-centric approach. Whether newly starting in the industry or seasoned Realtors®, agents come to and stay with Windermere for the staffing, technological and educational advantages they are offered. Windermere + Palm Springs = Great Box Office

Tuesday, January 24th, 2012

Each year, Coachella Valley dons its finest evening wear and pays homage to its Hollywood roots by welcoming filmdom’s finest directors, producers and actors to the annual Palm Springs International Film Festival. Held over a ten-day period (this year January 5-16) and now in its 23rd year, the Festival is recognized as a major player in the world of cinema, offering a sophisticated, high profile venue for hundreds of films, many from first time independent artists and studios. Windermere recognizes the many benefits of being host to an event as important and prestigious as the Festival, and for 2012 continues its sponsorship at the Platinum level. “There are a multitude of reasons so many have chosen to make their first and second homes here in the Coachella Valley,” says Bob Deville, co-owner, Windermere Southern California. “One of the greatest of these is our incredible diversity of lifestyles, social and recreational opportunities. The Palm Springs International Film Festival spotlights an important facet of our appeal: a broad range of entertainment options and personal interests.  When the Festival and other grand events bring visitors to Palm Springs and its neighboring communities, they fall in love with this place. They have done so for decades, and with all we have to offer, that’s not going to change.”  Among the many characteristics continuing to draw people to the Valley, Deville credits a strong real estate market which includes affordable prices in every range, an exceptional inventory of properties from weekend condo to million dollar estates, and savvy buyers and sellers who more than ever recognize the desert’s great opportunities.  “It’s a wonderful place to live, to work, and play,” says Deville. “There’s a strong sense of community which ties us all together here.” Windermere and its agents are noted for support of important local services; individual agents devote time, effort and money to a multitude of causes important to them, and entire offices join together throughout the year for various causes.  “Windermere appreciates the opportunity to support the Palm Springs International Film Festival each year, in part, because we  advance many of the same causes, including one of the most vital: educational and enrichment programs tailored for the Coachella Valley.” Proceeds from the PSIFF help to fund scholarships to low income students.

Busy Windermere Agents Paws To Help

Friday, December 23rd, 2011

Windermere Rancho Mirage agents Terry Nelson and Art Gregoire (71691 Highway 111) were recognized for their years of support for Save A Pet, a private, non-profit pet rescue organization based at Dillon Road and Palm Drive.  “Save A Pet is a non-kill shelter receiving up to 50 requests per day for animal adoption services,” explains Terry. “Due to severe budget cutbacks, the county animal facilities have been forced to reduce holding time for most animals to just 3 days before being put down; once an animal is accepted by Save A Pet, they have access to food, shelter, medical care if needed, and they stay until they’re adopted.” Rick Miller, who facilitates Save A Pet adoptions and maintains the Save A Pet website, adds, “Sadly, about 98% of the animals brought to us for adoption are family pets losing their homes along with their owners, who take some consolation in knowing we won’t stop until we’ve found these animals safe new permanent homes.”

Windermere agents are known for their involvement with neighborhood services and events, and Art and Terry are great examples. Recognized for efforts with a number of local organizations, they acknowledge Save A Pet holds a special place in their hearts. One of the ways they’ve shown their support is by hosting fundraising parties at their home, where they have collected donations, pet toys and pet food. “These animals don’t have control over their fates,” says Art. “Imagine a family losing its home, and on top of that, having to give up their cherished pets. We’re just helping these dogs, cats, puppies and kittens get adopted into permanent, loving families.”  So far this year alone, 328 dogs and 191 cats have found ‘Forever Homes,’ and more than 800 animals have been spayed or neutered. The ‘Rusty Award’ plaque was presented to Art and Terry at Windermere’s Rancho Mirage office by Rick Miller. Also on hand were Don Rossignol, Managing Broker, Windermere Rancho Mirage office; Ann Woods, who manages the Save A Pet cattery; and Rusty, Rick’s adopted 3-legged Akita. Rusty, the award’s namesake and a true survivor, subsisted for 7 weeks in the desert before being rescued.
