Julie Anne Brown, of Windermere Real Estate

Julie Anne Brown, of Windermere Real Estate

Everybody enjoys a good who-dunnit, right? Well, we’ve got one for you! “Murder Before Noon” is an old-fashioned page turner that takes place within the mystical and exciting world of Palm Springs real estate. It’s really fun to read a book about a place so close to home. And what makes it even more fun is that it was written by one of our own: Julie Anne Brown, a former Coachella Valley Realtor, and a current member of Windermere’s family of exceptional administrative staff. Julie writes from her own knowledge of the real estate world, and takes the reader on a twisting, turning insider’s journey, beginning with the discovery by Kendra McIntyre of a woman’s body in the walk-in closet of a home she is preparing to hold open. And then…nope. I’m not gonna tell you, you’ve got to read it on your own. The plot thickens…

Windermere Agents Give Santa a Hand

Tuesday, December 27th, 2011

Windermere agents love to jump in and support their communities. They’re involved year round, both with formal Windermere fundraising events, and with time, effort and money contributed to their own personal projects.  Dave Whitson, Windermere La Quinta agent (47-250 Washington Street) and Delta Sierra RV Club Toys for Tots Co-Chair, is proud of the unmatched success of this year’s Toys for Tots Drive, held December 10 at the Outdoor Resorts RV Resort in Indio.

This is the second year Windermere has taken part by collecting new toys for the program at a number of its offices across the Coachella Valley. Participating offices included Palm Springs Main, Palm Springs South, Palm Springs Midtown, Cathedral City, Palm Desert San Pablo, Rancho Mirage, La Quinta, and Indio. The evening’s highlights included an introduction of Veterans, prize drawings, and the opportunity for the ladies to ‘Dance With a Marine’ for a $5 contribution to the Toys for Tots Drive. The dances and the raffles contributed thousands of dollars more to the kitty, donations which will enable the Drive to purchase even more toys for deserving kids this year.  Attended by over 300 people, the event was sponsored by the Marine Corps, Windermere Real Estate, Delta Sierra, Outdoor Resorts Indio and Desert Shores Resort, and WalMart.  Dave Whitson, co-host and MC for the evening, welcomed four young Marines representing Toys for Tots from 29 Palms Marine Corps Base, and later, everybody was treated to a wonderful dinner. But the main focus of attention in the room was the beautifully decorated Christmas tree, surrounded by just some of the 2,000+ gifts collected for this year’s Toys for Tots Drive. “This was the most successful drive we have had in 9 years,” says Dave. “There were so many toys the Marines had to come back Sunday with a second truck…and 800 of the toys were collected and donated by Windermere agents.” Bob Deville, co-owner, Windermere Southern California, added, “We’re thrilled to participate again this year in the Toys for Tots Drive. Helping to give kids great holiday memories really brings the season home.”

Busy Windermere Agents Paws To Help

Friday, December 23rd, 2011

Windermere Rancho Mirage agents Terry Nelson and Art Gregoire (71691 Highway 111) were recognized for their years of support for Save A Pet, a private, non-profit pet rescue organization based at Dillon Road and Palm Drive.  “Save A Pet is a non-kill shelter receiving up to 50 requests per day for animal adoption services,” explains Terry. “Due to severe budget cutbacks, the county animal facilities have been forced to reduce holding time for most animals to just 3 days before being put down; once an animal is accepted by Save A Pet, they have access to food, shelter, medical care if needed, and they stay until they’re adopted.” Rick Miller, who facilitates Save A Pet adoptions and maintains the Save A Pet website, adds, “Sadly, about 98% of the animals brought to us for adoption are family pets losing their homes along with their owners, who take some consolation in knowing we won’t stop until we’ve found these animals safe new permanent homes.”

Windermere agents are known for their involvement with neighborhood services and events, and Art and Terry are great examples. Recognized for efforts with a number of local organizations, they acknowledge Save A Pet holds a special place in their hearts. One of the ways they’ve shown their support is by hosting fundraising parties at their home, where they have collected donations, pet toys and pet food. “These animals don’t have control over their fates,” says Art. “Imagine a family losing its home, and on top of that, having to give up their cherished pets. We’re just helping these dogs, cats, puppies and kittens get adopted into permanent, loving families.”  So far this year alone, 328 dogs and 191 cats have found ‘Forever Homes,’ and more than 800 animals have been spayed or neutered. The ‘Rusty Award’ plaque was presented to Art and Terry at Windermere’s Rancho Mirage office by Rick Miller. Also on hand were Don Rossignol, Managing Broker, Windermere Rancho Mirage office; Ann Woods, who manages the Save A Pet cattery; and Rusty, Rick’s adopted 3-legged Akita. Rusty, the award’s namesake and a true survivor, subsisted for 7 weeks in the desert before being rescued.

Windermere’s Wendy Forrester (Solana Beach office at 124 Lomas Santa Fe) went the distance, walking 60 miles in 3 days…all the way to downtown San Diego. Wendy met her Susan G. Komen ’3-Day for the Cure’ fundraising goal, and joined 5,000 others marching in pink across the finish line. “I appreciate your past support, and I’m honored that so many have donated again this year,” she said. Wendy, a cancer survivor herself, was proud to be a part of the celebration. Net proceeds from the 3-Day are invested in breast cancer research and community programs. “I’ve survived this, and now I want to help others. I walked in the 3-Day because I can.”
