Windermere Real Estate supports a great number of the desert’s community services throughout the year, with both formal company-wide activities and fundraisers, and with individual agent contributions of time, effort and money.

On Thursday, February 17, Don Rossignol of Windermere’s Palm Desert office at 44-530 San Pablo took pleasure in presenting to the YMCA a donation of $5,000 from The Windermere Foundation. “We have always been a major sponsor to the YMCA, and we’re proud of the tremendous work it does within our community,” says Bob Deville, Windermere Coachella Valley co-owner.

Critical services provided by the YMCA include after-school education and safety, youth and government programs, pre-school, a venue for birthday parties and other events, and camps for kids. Located at 43-930 San Pablo Avenue in Palm Desert, the facility is the desert’s sole location since the YMCA on E. Mesquite in Palm Springs closed several years ago.
Windermere Real Estate Coachella Valley has long supported the YMCA, with company-wide events dedicated to restoring and updating of the facility.  “We’re coming through some rough times for lots of families here,” says Deville. “The YMCA has always been here for our youth, and Windermere and its agents appreciate the chance to give back.”

The Windermere Foundation, a non-profit organization formed in 1989, is funded with a percentage of each Windermere sales transaction. Combined with contributions from Windermere employees and supporters, the Foundation has distributed over two million dollars annually in recent years to local non-profit agencies furnishing emergency and transitional housing. These funds help to subsidize costs for health care, employment counseling, placement and training, day care, scholarships, and much more.

Desert Home Featured for Palm Springs Modernism Week

Desert Home Featured for Palm Springs Modernism Week

One thing that visitors and Coachella Valley residents have in common:  a very real appreciation for our world-famous mid-century architecture. To actually walk among these tributes to new architectural thought, to see them standing so simple and so casual, yet so…classic…can’t help but spark fantasies of life in those laid back times that would help inspire the entire world to rethink its way of building.

February 17-27, thousands of visitors will celebrate and revel in Palm Springs Modernism Week.

Palm Springs and her neighbors were at the American center of this intelligent re-design of how we live. Building upon the avant garde Bauhaus movement in Europe, adventurous forward-thinking architects drew plans and built houses for the optimistic post-World War II buyer. The atomic age was here, and it manifested itself in starburst wall clocks, amoebic furniture, aqua-colored Melmac, sputnik-topped coffee shops…and ‘plastic,’ that new space-age material, was everywhere. With a wicked readiness to try anything new, these homes sprung fantasy-like from the sand, the newly-crowned prince of architectural royalty. These designs brought fresh blood and impertinence to the pedestrian styles of more traditional Southern California cities.
Like a shiny convertible beckoning from the curb, these places still pull us in. We love these homes, love what they represent to us: their optimism, their hope…a daring departure from old and stodgy. A carefree headfirst dive into architectural revolution.

Love Is In The Air, and NOT Just For Romantics!

Monday, February 14th, 2011

Realtors® are noted for being involved with plenty of community services and events…after all, neighborhoods are what Real Estate is all about, right?

The Palm Springs Board of Realtors® hosts three charity auctions each year. Windermere agents took part in an incredibly successful Valentine Auction at the Board. Our entry was a pair of GIANT gift baskets, each containing $300-400 in gift certificates and other goodies contributed by great local companies, including Roy’s of the Desert, Ruby’s Diner, Aspen Mills Bakery, and Koffi. Five charities benefited from this special event: The Boys and Girls Club of the Coachella Valley; The Boys and Girls Club of Cathedral City, Mizell Senior Center, Family Services of the Desert, and Well in the Desert.  From this one event alone, $4100 was raised.  And we’re not bragging (much) but Windermere’s baskets accounted for more than half of the proceeds. Okay, we’re bragging.

“Our Windermere agents always step up to the plate for local charities, and we are very proud of this. Giving back to the communities we work, live and play in continues to remain top priority with Windermere,” says Bob Deville, Windermere Coachella Valley co-owner.

Windermere Real Estate is again thrilled to be participating in the 10th Annual Discovery Home Tour, proceeds from which will benefit the Children’s Discovery Museum of the Desert. This exciting event draws greater interest each year, providing a rare look into some of the most distinctive private homes in Rancho Mirage.  The Discovery Home Tour, open Sunday, February 13, from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, will feature architectural styles ranging from Mediterranean to Modern.

Two of the six very special homes bringing exceptional magic to the Tour are situated in the exquisite Coronado Rancho Mirage development. Both the 7,497 square-foot Bougainvillea and the 7,600 square-foot Brittle Brush incorporate cutting edge design, and though each brings its own distinct provenance (one ultra-modern and the other (California/Mediterranean), they share features reserved for the most discerning owner, including 1,000-bottle wine rooms and custom artisan wood and stone finishes.

This year’s Discovery Home Tour event is especially notable, as proceeds will help fund the current expansion of the Children’s Discovery Museum of the Desert. Included in the Museum’s plans is a secondary exploratory gallery slated to feature 11 new, innovative exhibits incorporating science, balance, flexibility, and more. Also part of the expansion: an outdoor play area, and additional parking.

This year’s Annual Discovery Home Tour gives those with interest in fine desert architecture a special opportunity to experience firsthand some of the most beautiful and desirable residential properties anywhere in the desert, while at the same time helping to nurture bright, inquisitive children by supporting the Children’s Discovery Museum of the Desert.
