This year’s Great Autos of Yesteryear car club is being sponsored by Windermere Real Estate. The club’s annual benefit classic car show will be held in Palm Springs on Saturday, October 24th.

Bob DeVille, co-owner of Windermere Real Estate, here in the Coachella Valley says “We are thrilled to have the opportunity to support this event and help out three very deserving local charities. We realize the challenges of fundraising in these difficult times and it is always important for us to support the communities in which we do business and to give something back to them every chance we get.”

The three beneficiary organizations are Desert Outreach Foundation, Golden Rainbow Senior Center and the Desert AIDS Project. Each of these organizations fills a critical need here in the Coachella Valley and given recent state and federal budget cuts are in more need of support than at any time in their history.

This year’s event, the “Casual Concours” will be held at the Indian Canyons Golf Resort (South Course) on Saturday, October 24th from 10am until 4pm. Over 150 beautifully restored classic, exotic and special interest automobiles from all decades will be on display on the golf course greens.

This annual event has been held in different southland locations and the club is excited to bring the event to Palm Springs this year. General admission is only $10 and all the proceeds from this year’s show will go directly to the three beneficiary organizations.

The Indian Canyons Golf Resort is located two miles south of Downtown Palm Springs at 1097 E. Murray Canyon Drive. So mark the date and come out and enjoy a dazzling display of cars and support some very deserving causes. Food and beverages will be available at the show for purchase so come have lunch and make a day of it.

In case you didn’t know, the Great Autos of Yesteryear car club just celebrated it’s 25th anniversary and is Southern California’s premier gay and lesbian classic car club and one of the largest in the world. The club has over 1,100 members with over 300 members in the Coachella Valley area alone. The club’s members have approximately 3,600 collector cars.

Golf Home Specialist, Carol Hochsprung, recently returned from The Samsung World Championship women’s LPGA professional golf event. The Championship was held September 17-20, 2009 at Torrey Pines Golf Course in San Diego.

“I was honored to be present for two days of terrific golf,” says Carol.  “Fans were able to see the 20 elite players from around the world up close and personal.  This million dollar event is like the women’s masters and it went “down to the wire” – the 72nd hole for the champion to be determined by one shot.”

“Here I am posed by the message board with the woman who won after shooting a marvelous 63 on Saturday and birding the 72nd hole on Sunday, Na Yeon Choi.  This was this young South Korean’s first victory and worth $250,000 to her.  Golf Fans be ALERT for next year!  You wil not want to miss this opportunity to see the best women golfers in the world. (This event was at Bighorn Golf Club until 2 years ago- I was a walking scorer when it was in Palm Desert, and LOVED my “inside the ropes” responsibility.)” she adds.

If you have questions or comments please visit Carol’s website.

Golf Home Specialist Carol Hochsprung Reports From Solheim Tournament

Tuesday, September 1st, 2009

What a week it was in Women’s Golf – both for the amateurs who love the game and the professionals – members of the LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) and the LET (Ladies European Tour). It has rippled the golf world as an exciting, competitive venue of match play for strong, talented, motivated WOMEN. For the millions of viewers watching TV, many had not experienced the unique “head to head” format. And the buzz is out there: “ These Women Rock.” And who won? The coveted Solheim Cup went down to the wire on Sunday with the American team winning 16-12!

Here I am beside the 2009 sign showing opposing Captains Beth Daniel, USA, and Allison Nicholas of the LET. This unique competition occurs only every odd year. 2011 will be held in Ireland; 2013 will be at a Colorado Club outside Denver, CO, my former residence. I plan to attend both, wearing the red, white, and blue of the America.

Opening ceremonies are thrilling even if most of us had no bleacher seating. Here’s European Legend, Laura Davies, ready to hoist her country’s flag.

Here’s desert resident, former LPGA tour star, and Golf Channel commentator Donna Caponi posing with me beside the 17th green the day before competition began. She and fellow announcers Dottie Pepper & Kay Cockerill were testing and evaluating the breaks on the green- Because this competition was totally about who could putt better.

“Here’s a gorgeous view of hole # 18! Rich Harvest Farms Golf Course in Sugar Grove, IL was in excellent condition, perfect, in fact! It was very difficult and a real test
for the best women players in the WORLD.

I wanted to share photos and commentary to honor these women, to maybe pique your interest in playing, and to let you know that this kind of first hand golf tournament experience – actually being there – captivated me and excited my passion for golf once again. I’m going out to hit some practice shots today – in spite of the desert’s
100+ temperature. I’m fired up!

To have your own close interaction with great women golfers, head on out to Mission Hills C.C. September 14-19, 2009 to follow the players attempting to qualify for the LPGA tour. For a second opportunity for following in person, the LPGA Tour then returns to that same course March 29- April 4, 2010 for the Kraft Nabisco (formerly The Dinah Shore) LPGA Championship – a major event in our desert on the schedule for over 30 years. Is this desert perfect for golf or what?
If you have questions or comments please contact me via my website. Make those putts now!
